Preimplantation genetic diagnosis

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is a reproductive technology that allows the detection of genetic defects in embryos, such as β-Thalassaemia, cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome e.t.c., while they are kept in culture in the ivf laboratory. PGD enables the selection of healthy embryos, free of genetic defects, to be transferred in the uterus.
